A
drian McAleese of
Celtoi Designs, uses a unique technique to present the Celtic Knot, combining
aged script papers, hessian weave and golden threads. The poem below,
written by Adrian himself, explains the symbolism and meaning that has inspired
what has become known as 'The Celtoi Knot'.
The
Celtoi Knot
The
strand of each knot is our journey in life
We
have love, we have pain, we have laughter and strife
We
meet others, we discover, we learn and we grow
Each
experience a lesson life wants us to know
The
hessian weave, strands making a 'whole'
One
lifetime on earth; body, spirit and soul
The
golden threads reach out and explore
Like
us, on this journey, often searching for more
Look
more closely at life, you'll see you are blessed
A
Celtic blessing offering solace and rest
Like
the arms of a loved one, the advice of a friend
Giving
hope and encouragement, till this journey's end
This
journey is yours, unique with one chance
So
gather life's lessons and use to enhance
Your
life, your being, your pleasure, your pain
Remembering
that sunshine always follows the rain

As perhaps the
most recognisable and identifiable icon of traditional Irish folklore, the
Celtic Knot is steeped in mystical symbolism dating back well over a thousand
years. Its interlaced pattern of unbroken lines represents man's pilgrimage
through life, and reinforces his connectedness with the land and all living
things around him. Over time various Celtic artists have explored the
mystical nature of the Celtic Knot and have offered their interpretations of its
influence upon them. It is my pleasure to share with you my personal
interpretation of the meaning of this revered symbol, and how it has come to
influence and shape my own life.
